# Need help from graphics card guru

At work I have a Lenovo M58 desktop PC. It has integrated graphics using an Intel Q45/Q43 chipset. It has a standard VGA port and also a DisplayPort. I am trying to use a Dell 3007WFP 30" LCD with it. The LCD only uses Dual Link DVI, but the PC came with a DVI-to-DisplayPort adapter. The display connects using the adapter, but I get a max resolution of 1280 x 800 (which is huge when sitting this close.) The monitor has a capability of 2560 x 1600. So, my question is, since the LCD comes on at all I assume the graphics card can handle it (perhaps an incorrect assumption.) Is it possible that the DVI-to-DisplayPort adapter is the problem? Could the adapter fit the Dual Link DVI but not actually translate properly?
ETA: I’m using Windows 7 32-bit with the latest graphic drivers from Lenovo.

Take look at the adapter and compare it with [this](http://uk.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=26759266) picture and tell us to what the adapter converts.

From the Wiki page, under the Connector section, it matches the second picture from the top (DVI-I Dual Link).

I’m not convinced it’s the adapter. Did you download the latest video card drivers from Nvidia? On Lenovo’s site their graphics card drivers were put out in 2009, but off Nvidia’s site I see the latest built is 1/18/11. It looks like you have a [9500GT](http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-32bit-266.58-whql-driver.html), try drivers from there.

Ok, I’m no graphics expert so bare with me. On Lenovo’s site there are drivers for this PC for Intel, nVidia and ATI. My PC has the Intel chip. I assume the nVidia drivers won’t work with it, or would they?

That adapter is single-link, you need one like [this](http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/cables/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=330-5521).

Ahhh I see. When I was looking up your product specs on your PC I only found nVidia as graphics card drivers. No, you’d need Intel’s latest drivers which you should be able to get [here](http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/detect.htm).

Ah, yes, that makes sense. That’s pretty expensive for an adapter. I’ll have to see if I can find one cheaper that the boss’ll spring for… Thanks.

Here’s one a little [cheaper](http://www.amazon.com/Accell-UltraAV-B087B-002B-DisplayPort-Dual-Link/dp/B002ISVI3U). Don’t forget a dual-link cable and download the monitor driver from Dell.
