You’re probably right - I’m not sure why many of the other desktop solutions never pulled themselves together in that way.
I know it’s silly, but the thing that put me off using KDE is the naming konvention for programs targeted to run under it. I hate it far more than I should.
Timely thread. I have been an Ubuntu user for years ( on my laptop which I use sparingly ) and just last week made the jump from Unity to Xfce. I wish I had done so sooner.
To the best of my knowledge, the real thing.
I’m quite content with Unity so haven’t tried it.
Ah, that’s a lookalike - I tried something like this on a different distribution of Linux.
I thought you might be talking about something like hackintosh, but just the presentation layer.
I tried it when I upgraded from Ubuntu 10.04 to 12.10, but I don’t like it. It seems really cut-down.
