Need Help proving what is ruining my paint job [new title]

What’s the make of car? This would help not in the respect of your OP, but maybe just helping you. Ford, for example, has three years bumper to bump, which includes paint. This is NOT the same as the five-year “rust through” warranty, but a true warranty on the paint.

FYI the Polyshield was probably an $8 bottle of goo… check the fine print. I bet there’s something that says you need to wash and wax regularly.

Finally, go get some tree sap. Put it on your car. THEN take it to the dealer.

I agree with you Daylon, somebody here is trying to screw you. I would be pissed as well. Start making a stink up the corporate ladder, first target: Dealership manager. Let them know that you will be a pain in their ass until this thing is resolved. THEY sold it to you, THEY should honor it. The Better Business Bureau is a good start, but why stop there? Why not contact your State Attorney General’s office as well? Any local news stations having a slow news day? Consumer fraud bits might garner the attention of some bit reporter. Auto manufacturers also have regional headquarters, make a stink there as well.

I hate to mention other boards here, considering the SDMB is clearly the superior local, but you may get some more insight into the Auto world if you try http://cartalk.cars.com/board/ . See what the peeps over there have to say, I would expect that there would be several people over there that have survived a bout with BHDS (Butt-headed Dealer Syndrome)

Good luck, and fight the good fight.

COncerning car model / type:

2002 Acura 3.2 TL Type S - 7k miles - black (and you know EVERYTHING shows up on a black car)

I’m going to check the manufacturers warranty and see if there isn’t a 12 month / 12k mile environmental deal like the one Philster mentioned for Chevy cars and trucks.

Trying to remember my basic chemistry… tree sap should have simple sugars in it, glue shouldnt’… right? any chemists out there?

There’s an idea Daylon! Try burning the stuff and inhaling a little tiny bit. You’ll know right away if it’s a characteristic caramel smell or a burnt oil smell!

"How do I for certain determine if it’s sap or glue?
"

Sniff it, pitch has a certain odor. Why haven’t you found the source of it yet anyway? I fyou park somewhere
& you get it on your car, look up & see whats dropping on your car.

My way of dealing with sap, if its sap, is just hit it with a small lite hammer handle, it comes right off.
