_Dazed and Confused_ by Led Zeppelin.

I don’t do illegal substances, but it seems to me this song would be perfect.

Absolutely _anything_ by [Ozric Tentacles](http://www.ozrics.com/indexnew.htm).

I’m kinda partial to _Sploosh!_ off of “Strangetude”. All their stuff is instrumental and has a prog feel to it. Worth checking out.

Based on exhaustive research years ago, I would have to add my vote to many of those mentioned before.
Led Zepplin II- album and the song Kasmir.
Pink Floyd- DSotM & The Wall- albums
Iron Butterfly- Inna Gadda da Vida song from the album- Ball

I’d add:
Deep Purple- Machine Head- album
Rush- 2112 album

Listen to Steppenwolf- Monster, the title song. See if it seems as relevant today as it did then.

I would add to the note about headphones: a good bean bag chair in conjunction with the headphones can’t be beat.

I wonder how many of you thought of **Dark Side of the Moon** as your first choice.

I would add **Nights in White Satin** by the Moody Blues

The soundtrack to **The Last Waltz** by The Band and friends

**Tubular Bells** by Mike Oldfield (the original vinyl, if possible)

**The Best of Jolson**. Featuring Swanee; You Made Me Love You; I’m Looking Over A Four Leaf Clover/Baby Face; Sonny Boy; Toot, Toot, Tootsie!; April Showers; Rock-A-Bye Your Baby With A Dixie Melody; Ma, She’s Making Eyes At Me/Dinah; California, Here I Come; Anniversary Song; Ol’ Man River and many more.

Believe it or not, it used to go down a bomb back in the day. I was the only person who had a copy and late at night someone would ask to hear it and what a hoot it was.

I feel that I should add a little obscurity here–judging from how it’s enhanced by a nice alcohol buzz, I’d say In the Woods… **Omnio** and T **hree Times Seven on a Pilgrimage**. Circulus’ **The Lick on the Tip of an Envelope About to Be Sent** certainly involved the consumption of some substances during its production, so I suspect they’d go well with the listening as well. And… well, a little bird told me that Front 242’s \*\*05:22:09:12 OFF \*\*is downright trippy while under the influence.

From this century, I’d recommend most anything by Massive Attack as being perfectly lovely when altered, especially if you happen to be boinking at the same time.

Soul Coughing, definitely–vocals which sound like percussion and the actual lyrics themselves will keep you going “whhhuuuut?” for quite a while.

I’m basically straight edge without the pretension or Fugazi, but I will mention [Devendra Banhart](http://www.cripplecrow.com/). As a non-stoner, he seems to be a great contemporary smoking-mans music maker.

Never experienced it, so I can’t say, but how about “Source Tags and Codes” by “… and You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead”? It’s modern rock, but sung in a voice that a mix between a West Coast stoner and a classic rock epic. The songs tend to noodle a bit in places too in the “classic rock stoner album” sort of way. The songs seem to be “saying something” to me that I can’t quite figure out even when I’m listening to them sober.

Speaking of sober, this probably doesn’t qualify, but when I’m drunk a lot of the times I put on Minor Threat. I think it’s humorous to listen to a straightedge band while not sober, and the songs are good in a not-paying-attention way, but I don’t know if a difference substance would give you the same sense of humor that alcohol does.

**King Crimson** - _Red_, _Larks’ Tongues In Aspic_
**Fennesz** - _Endless Summer_, _Venice_
**Boards of Canada** - any of their stuff but especially _Music Has The Right To Children_
**Autechre** - earlier stuff like _Tri Repetae++_, _Amber_, etc.
**Tortoise** - all albums except _In the Fishtank_
**Polvo** - all of their stuff.

Warning: some of that is electronic. I don’t know whether your boat is floated by electronica. If you just like guitar-y rock sort of stuff, then **King Crimson** and **Polvo**.

I guess I should at some Happy the Man, like \* lunch at the psychodelicatessen\* and \* stumpy meets the firecracker in stencl forest\* and pretty much anything by Umphrey’s Mcgee

**Rush** , _Moving Pictures_-either with headphones or good surround stereo. Lots of textures for “herbal” exploration.

Once again: **Rush** _Exit…Stage Left_. This is the live album from the tour supporting the preceeding. It’s not really the best “live” sounding recording, but, once again, a lot of aural textures.

**Fear** , _The Record_-if you’re into hilariously ironic nihlism while exploring, here you go. These guys are very tight for a punk band, and the lyrics are funny as hell. Not for the mellow buzz!

As others have said, **Pink Floyd**. 'Nuff said.

**Alan Parsons Project** , _Turn of a Friendly Card_ and _I, Robot_. Definite headphone w/herb material.

Primus, Primus, Primus. Try it, you’ll like it! 😃

If you can get hold of any of the **National Lampoon** recordings like _Lemmings_, or especially _Radio Dinner_, you will laugh until death. If you get the jokes. No wait. These were Nat Lam at their prime, so they will kill you anyway. Even if you are totally sober. Or soberly totalled.
**Disclaimer**
Poster does not, nor would he advocate chemical/neural fun not approved by the rather Calvinistic laws of The Land of the Free, Because of the Brave.

Yeah. Dig it. 🆒
