What I found interesting with the ammonia bending is that a wood like bloodwood that will not usually allow us to bend it with heat or steam readily bends easily with the ammonia treatment. That is something we need to really look more closely at as we have several varieties of good bow wood that we can’t bend.

HoneyBadgerDC - please be extremely cautious with anhydrous ammonia. It draws out water from anything it can find - you can get severe burns, your eyes can get extremely irritated and you can choke. Please take proper precautions.

Large scale farmers have anhydrous ammonia tanks that they use for fertilizing their crops.

Please also be aware that anhydrous ammonia was sought after by meth addicts that used it to make the drug. (This was many years ago and the scene may have changed). So before asking around for it, please be cautious not to arouse suspicion from law enforcement.

I used to work on truck that carried Ammonia. I would always have the drivers walk me around the truck and explain anything I wasn’t sure about. One time I asked a driver what I should do if I start smelling ammonia, he said you will be dead to fast to do anything. I would learn proper precautions before I even took possession. If it is too dangerous to handle I won’t fool with it.
