Actually, the last one is probably asked in interviews for orthopedic residencies (along with “Can you operate a high-powered drill?” and “How much do you bench?”) ---

This is one I’ve always wanted to use: [ul] [li]“Are you a qualified elevator repairman? By the way - don’t ask why, but when you leave today, hold your breath and don’t move a muscle when you’re taking the elevator down… Better yet, just take the stairs.” (Note: this only works if the job has nothing to do with elevators)[/li][li]“Are you, or have you ever been, a member of the Frankie Goes to Hollywood fan club?”[/li][li]“Yes/no question: Have you stopped picking your nose and eating it yet?” (courtesy of third-graders the world over)[/li][li]“If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?”[/li][/ul] On a related note: I once had an interview for a potential department transfer very early on with my current employer, where the interviewer gave me a dollar, asked me to go to the candy machine in the break room (I bought a Milky Way), buy something and bring it back, and then asked me to explain why I bought what I’d bought. My answer, without missing a beat, because I figured he was going to ask: “Because I’m multi-layered, I can be firm when I need to be, like the chocolate coating, I can yield when necessary like the nougat, and most importantly, I’m smooooth like the caramel.” He offered me the job on the spot. I wound up not taking it, as my boss at the time had asked me if I could stick around - he said I wouldn’t regret it, and I haven’t for one minute. Also, I thought the candy question was a bit amatuerish, and I wasn’t impressed that the guy didn’t ask me more job-related questions. ---
