Need Restaurant Recommendations in DC, Please

[li]6:00AM arrival, then pick up keys to studio from Park Hyatt (where boss and son are staying), go to studio at 17th St. & R to freshen up.[/li][li]9:00AM Meet the boss, his GF and son somewhere and see the Museum of Natural History[/li][li]Unsure what time we’ll be done there, but if we separate from the bossman after lunch, Thomas and I were thinking of heading over to the Washington Monument, Vietnam Memorial, etc.[/li][li]Perhaps we could have dinner somewhere in that vicinity (recommendations there also appreciated!), perhaps make it a Dopefest???[/li][/ul]

[li]Not sure what we’re going to do all morning, but the gates open at 8AM for the Opening Ceremonies at the Lincoln Memorial. However, the program doesn’t start until 2:30, so not sure how early we really should try to head over there (8AM seems awfully early!)[/li][li]2:30 Opening Ceremonies[/li][li]6:00? 7:00? 8:00? Not sure what time it starts, but we’re attending the California Bash at the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum, where I’m sure they’ll be serving some kind of food.[/li][/ul]

One of the museums has a restaurant that gets raves but I can’t remember which! Perhaps someoene will come by with the name.

The cafe at the National Galleries gets good reviews and so does the one at the Museum of the American Indian.

DC has some of the best Ethiopian food in the country, especially in the Adams-Morgan area.

Well, they used to. Fasika’s and Red Sea, the two really good ones, are now gone. There are several lesser ones in their wake. The recommendations I’d have given ten years ago are very different from the ones I’d give now.

Skip all the “giant slice” pizza places; they are just awful.

Etete at 1942 9th Street NW is a newer and by most accounts better Ethopian restaurant. Washington isn’t just full of Ethiopian restaurants. I’m convinced it’s the reason that there have been famines in Ethiopia. There’s no Ethiopian food to be eaten in Ethiopia because it’s all been shipped to D.C.

Bump. How was the trip?

Hey, thanks for the bump! It was AWESOME! I’ve got a class tonight, so I don’t have time to post details right now, but I promise to come back and update you on the events, as well as what restaurants we ended up at, and which ones we liked.

In the meantime, here’s our view of the inauguration ceremony. So we could have seen it from where we were standing, were it not for tall people, a bigass tree, and the lack of bionic eyesight!
