# Need some fonts reminiscent of the 60s, 70s, & 80s

I’m making a batch of new compilation CDs and would like some period fonts from the 60s, 70s, & 80s to make labels.
I tried Googling, but didn’t see anything I liked (except for a neat 50’s font).
Any clues?

[1001fonts.com](http://www.1001fonts.com) has a lot of good stuff (lots of freeware too). I’d check the “Retro” category first, but spend some time browsing. Lots of good stuff.

I’m pretty sure both Futura and Univers came from that era.

Futura is from the 20s and Univers is from the 50s.

Chalet has a font that includes 60’s, 70’s and 80’s versions of it.
I believe it is a house industries font.

If what you mean is you are looking for a font that looks [like this](http://geosound.org/geo36/yardbirds-fillmore-poster.jpg), your best bet will be word art.

For the 70s, I’d use Cooper Black, Avant Garde, Hobo, or Ronda.
For the 80s, I’d use Souvenir, or Mistral (which is included with some versions of Windows).

I prefer [Acid Fonts](http://www.acidfonts.com/). Fonts are easier to browse when they’re in alphabetical order.
_02.10_ and _08 02 03_ look like typical Flower Power fonts.
Can’t get much more 80s than _Automania_.

Helvetica is the ultimate 1970s multi-purpose font. Not Arial … but the real deal from Switzerland.
Optima is another font frequently used for text in the 1970s.
If it’s a compilation of British songs, no matter what the decade, use Gill Sans. Brits absolutely love Gill Sans, for some reason.
