Need some opinions on my 16 year old cat's health

Hi CW, wondering how Max is doing as I’ve only just found this thread and the last message is about a month old. We have 1 cat 16 and half, and “twins” 15 and a half…all just diagnosed with kidney problems and all going through what your Max has. Here in New Zealand, we feed our cats real raw meat…JIMBO’s catfood…chunky veal, or steak and kidney, pure beef…etc. Raw meat, but with added nutrients. Very strange for me when I first moved here, as I come from Canada where it was whiska’s back in the day. Our vet also recommended low protein prescription food…bikkies and wet versions (packet or tinned). But the new chow is not very popular with our kids. So I am very interested in your comments about low protein vs a high quality protein diet. Jimbo’s certainly meets the high quality protein…as well as high moisture content. They even feed it to the lions in our zoos here.
Sending you and Max good wishes from down under
