It’s getting to be That Time at Chez Doors. St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner. Since Airman is pretty well Irish, we usually make a corned beef and cabbage. As much as I like corned beef and cabbage (and being Jewish, I’m hard-wired to like it), I want to try something different.

Unfortunately, I am not Irish, and I have no real idea what’s out there. Airman does not observe Lent, so meat is not an issue. I’d appreciate any suggestions and recipes y’all may have.

Robin

The one thing I really, really loved about visiting Ireland is the traditional Irish breakfast. Don’t get me wrong, pub grub, Ploughman’s lunch, and salmon on the coasts are fantastic, the thing I really miss, the thing that I spend too much money making at home, is the traditional Irish breakfast.

Let me try this again.

There was a thread a couple of years ago looking for “Celtic Party Food”, I’ve saved it and it is here - [http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=396194](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=396194)

Some tasty sounding ideas, I thought (although I’ve yet to try them).

The food I remember most fondly from Ireland was smoked salmon and ham sandwiches. They put butter rather than crappy mayo on the bread, and I think the ham was superiour to what I’m used to. Or maybe everything tastes better in Ireland.

I mentioned Guiness stew to my mates extremely Irish grandad and he said:

‘What dyawant to be puttin’ Guiness in a stew for, you feckin’ drink it you eejit!’

Guess that’s me told then! I do love Guiness stew though but this authentic Irish man didn’t think it was very authentic!

This Irish stew recipe by Richard Corrigan is the kitties titties however:

> **[Traditional Irish stew recipe](https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/irishstew_67437)**
>
> A simple Irish stew with soft lamb and sweet carrots. A cheaper cut of meat saves money but doesn't scrimp on flavour.

I thought the OP was asking for authentic!?

[This](http://www.heinz.co.uk/products/heinz_salad_cream.aspx) is an authentic Irish salad dressing.
