# Needed: list of media outlets and contact numbers

I belong to a women’s entreprenuerial group interested in obtaining a comprehensive list of national and regional media outlets that would include contact names/telephone numbers for weeklies, trade journals, magazines, cable and radio. (We hope to interest them in our group and thus increase our visibility as a speakers’ forum for national opinion leaders.)

Is there a good source that provides this information? Any web-based?

Probably the best source for this sort of thing is [Bacon’s](http://www.bacons.com). They’ve been in the business for years, and have recently taken their directories online. You can get a free two-day trial on their site, but I don’t know if you have to commit to something first.

Another excellent source for list generation is [MediaMap](http://www.mediamap.com). I’m not sure if they have any free options or not, but they do have an extensive database.  
As an aside, I don’t want to put a sales pitch in GQ, but the company I work for is in the press release distribution business, and might be able to help out. If you’re interested, e-mail me and I can point you in the right direction.

Weird. I stumbled across this on [Slate.com](http://Slate.com) only a few hours ago. Granted, it is not comprehensive. For example, the media outlet I work for is not listed where it should be.
