A zombie about a film that is primarily an excuse to stage that homoerotic volleyball tounement. Everything else was just window dressing. “Maverick to Iceman, requesting an inbound to your afterburner, over.” That movie is more responsible for legitimizing homosexuality in the Armed Forces than Obama. I watched Topgun at sea on an aircraft carrier in an F-14 squadron ready room. Needless to say, there was some energetic “critical analysis” of the movie. ---

Back around the time the movie took place you could possibly get away with this most likely you would be grounded for a month maybe loose some money be put on restrictions but people would still do it and you were better off asking for permission and saying you already committed or you did not hear the reply in time or you did not hear the reply at all but if you just plain don’t ask for permission you always would’ve gotten the worst possible. Also at the beginning of the movie the were almost at the end of there patrol when they had their encounter with the “migs” so running low on fuel is not unbelievable and a midair refueling would have been possible but the closest base would have been Turkey and to get a stratotanker airborne and to them most definitely would’ve taken longer than they had. A misconception about military pilots is that they lack discipline. Far from true. They know that any infraction can potentially end their flying career if not their military career. No one would do something as dumb as buzzing the flight deck of a carrier or a military field without prior permission. If they did and lived to fly again, they’d definitely know better than to think about doing it again.
