It could have been taken home, thrown out, given away.

Yeah, but as she already said, had she tried to do that, she would have eaten it anyway. A lot of people get their food discipline by avoiding temptation in the first place.

And I don’t want to put it all on the giver, but if he knew about the OP watching her weight (and I see no evidence that he did), then he made a very poor choice for a gift. And what with the sometimes strange diets that people are on these days, food is sort of a dicey choice of gift for anyone you don’t know well.

True. Though he does know her well enough to know that this particular item was a childhood favorite- I don’t think that you can level a charge of thoughtlessness at him.
And on the scale of food gifts one could give, a factory-made, factory wrapped nut-less candy item that one describes fondly in childhood memories is pretty safe, all things considered.

Anyway, the Op was a bit rude, but not super rude. If she wants to mend fences, she can, I think, do it pretty easily…but the first step is in accepting that it’s not the other guy’s malfunction.

All is well and good. He got in touch with me after work and apologized for “being such an idiot”. I offered my apologies too and said maybe I overreacted and explained why. He \*\*does \*\* know I’m watching what I eat, but he thought I’d make an exception due to the holiday and the memories surrounding it.

TDN got it exactly - I avoid temptation cause it’s the easiest way for me to stick to my choice. He and I have a close enough relationship that I assumed he’d fully understand where I was coming from at the time, but it goes to show I still have a lot to learn!

If that doesn’t work, offer him a blowjob.

😃 And to think I nearly skipped this line…
