Yes, hubby is the same way. He tells me it is because men are built to feel compelled to solve problems, especially when it involves the women they love. Frankly, I know plenty of women that are the same way (wanting to solve the problem instead of just letting you vent). I wish I could just be above it all and not worry about trivial stuff. However, if nobody was ever irritated by anything, there would be no need for The Pit and I like The Pit. ---

I joined in October and have been lurking. The first post you saw was the first post I ever made here under any name. I do post in other forums and am not new to the concept. Im a noob too…I think Chesire was joking…its a grave crime to accuse someone of trolling or puppetry…SDMB is well moderated…I do wish folks would not fight with each other so much tho…i learn much more from “reasoned” debate… “good parking makes good neighbors”…////I hate parking in other peoples areas…they can see what I’m doing in my truck!!:eek: ---

And why are they reading the Pit, when they couldn’t identify with anything anyone says? If they truly were never annoyed, why are they here? Answer, they’re either (a) trolling or (b) are people who perform the action that started the OP, and feel a need to defend themselves. Or, I guess, (c), have a mental disorder that prevents them from seeing how they are contradicting themselves. My money with Morgenstein is on (b) with a side of “Maybe she thinks she’s never annoyed since she’s always the person acting like a douchenozzle.” And it pisses me off that I’m defending **brazil84** and even his rules of debate. If they were always so judiciously used, they wouldn’t piss me off so much. ---

That’s pretty much what I was trying to say in my first post (#196) and I wholeheartedly agree, although you probably said it better. A. If you don’t want to read about people’s annoyances, don’t come and read at The Pit which is designed for that purpose. B. Complaining about other people’s complaints is still complaining so they are not actually as immune from petty annoyances as they claim (Damn! I think I confused even myself there). The point is that nobody is suggesting that people parking in front of their house bothers them across the board in any situation or by any person. What I think they are saying is they object to neighbors who do it repeatedly to either a. make some kind of point, b. because they are oblivious to good manners/common courtesy, or c. because they are just plain douchebags. They are not complaining about people who ocassionally park there or park there because parking is not available in front of their own homes. I think some are being deliberately obtuse in pretending not to understand the difference. Like I said, my neighbors do it all the time and always have (we have lived here 12 years). We have never complained to them or called the police on them for it. However, I happen to know that they are inconsiderate a-holes from a variety of other things they have done over the years. Has it ever occurred to anyone that perhaps the people complaining on this thread know their neighbors and their neighborhood well enough to tell whether neighbors are just being jerks? Yes, it’s a public street. No, I don’t own it. Yes, they are well within their rights to park there. Guess what, I am well within my rights to bitch about it here or to anyone else who will listen. If I was going to start a thread here about my neighbors, the parking thing probably would not be tops on my list of things to bitch about but that’s another story. ---

What are you doing in your truck? Nevermind, that’s probably a different forum. I don’t see why debates ever have to turn personal and degrade into the forum equivalent of name calling. If I am really not interested in the entire topic of a thread or think it’s a waste of time, I just ignore it and move on. Plus, I think you can disagree with someone without being nasty or condescending. Everyone has a right to their opinions. Even people who disagree with me! ---

We choose to draw the line when there is harm or the potential for harm involved. We choose to allow people to park in front of our house for the right to park in front of their house when we need to. But you go ahead and bust your gussets all you like.
