1. I have made it yet another year. I am 5 months away from my 78th birthday. No one seems to find this overly important when I speak of it to my fellow home for the elderly residents. I am lucky. ---

I remember when I turned 50 and was feeling ancient, my mother said, ā€œSomeday youā€™ll be looking back and wish you were 50.ā€ Well, it didnā€™t take long. Now Iā€™m 62, and have to realize that Iā€™m closer to 70 than 50. And I also am forced to realize that the phrase ā€œthe rest of my lifeā€ does not equal ā€œendless.ā€ But then again, it never really did. ---

HOw do I feel? It all depends on what is going on at the moment. Sometimes, on my daily exercise walks accompanied by Sam (I think of them as promenades), I feel like I am sixteen. Or I wish I am, anyway. No, I FEEL sixteen. I really do. Some things donā€™t change. I feel the the same guilty vertigo that makes one smile in secret later. I feel my age most when I go for my doctor appointments. He tells me things I donā€™t want to hear nor know. He tells me not to eat peanuts. Peanuts! For heavenā€™s sake, peanuts! He thinks I might choke on the damn things. Am I a battleaxe? When I get too feeble to walk, I will get a motorized chair. Watch out, world! Definitely, yes, I am a battleaxe. Maybe a tad subdued now but only because Iā€™m letting the younger generation take over. Why am I blushing? When I labored over my first post, I felt like I was in a deathly blush, embarrased and excited at the same time by my internet adventure. But going back to my own topic, I do feel fortunate I am still blessed with mobility and I havenā€™t been ravaged by senility yet. One resident here told me over the holidays, that all he had was memories of good times past. I had to tell him, I am still busy making new ones. ---

In my familyā€™s view, youā€™re still a youngster! My mom is 87 and going strong, and my dadā€™s mother passed away four years ago a month shy of her 103rd birthday. So you get busy living the many, many years you have in front of you, or Iā€™ll send my mom over to whap you with her cane! šŸ˜ƒ ---

Congratulations on yet another year! Iā€™m sure there will be many more like it yet. I like the attitude, too; thereā€™s always great new stuff to discover and explore, and it keeps you young and fresh. I am convinced that if you make a concerted effort to learn new things each day and explore and enjoy life as best as you are able every day, youā€™ll life _forever_.
