I’m almost embarassed to admit this, but yes, at age 37, I have an account on [Neopets](http://www.neopets.com). For the uninitiated, Neopets is a virtual pet site with a large selection of oddly interesting pets, games and generally Fun Stuff targeted mainly to a much younger demographic than I represent. I have a Gelert (sort of a doglike creature), and his name is Areskuu. So, are there any other Dopers there, or am I the only weird one? ---

Nope. I have an account too. However, I very seldom visit it, and when I do it says my pets are “dying of starvation”. Frankly, I don’t need the guilt. ---

There was a [thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=80620&highlight=neopets) here on Neopets a while back, but I don’t know who still has them. If I haven’t checked on mine in over a year, is it probably dead? ---

My pet is a blue Scorchio named CordwainerBird, and Robinson is the name of his Spyder petpet. I haven’t been doing much with it lately. I do Grundo’s Gym and a couple of other games regularly, feed my pet, and that’s about it. ---

I’m on neopets. I’m “dawnjoy” over there, too. I spend my time managing a huge shop that doesn’t make a profit, and playing Pyramids or Ultimate Bullseye. ---

I joined Neopets when I first heard about it in an issue of PCGamer (the dopest magazine in the freakin’ world, afaik) and played a lot of “Cellblock” for a long time, became viciously good at it and now can kick anyone’s ass to Acapulco and back at Connect Four because of it. (Who says computers don’t teach you real-life skills??? Fah!!) I had a green Lupe named Weedeatr who has now hopefully wasted away…I’m not going back…I think he’ll eat me if I do. =S ---

Oh, yeah! Neopets. I was caughtatwork and then I did stupid (!) and lost my account to a ‘scam’. I’m now caughtathome over there. I have a Scorchio called MyNewScorchBoy. I’m saving up 99,999 NP to buy a Fire, Fire Your Pants on Fire Paint Brush so I can give him flames. I’m up to 50,000 NP now (after I lost my first account) and hopefully in a couple of weeks I’ll get my Paint Brush. Go on, buy something from my shop. Also, today is Cybunny Day, which are very rare to get as pets, but if you want a Cybunny you might be able to get one today. My SO and daughter play Neopets too, so we have a lot of pets to feed (although two of the SO’s are dying as I type). I also collect the plushies from LimitedToo and I have a: Starry Scorchio (2) Red Scorchio Brown Doglefox (2) Blue Cybunny (2) Bruce Baaba Noil Blue Aisha Blue Kacheek Yellow Chia Faerie Kougra You think you’re mad. At least you’re not spending money on buying things frmo the game. AND I’m in Australia so shipping is just killing me. But I love them all the same (and I’m 38). So there. You’re not mad. That’s my excuse. ---

I got an account there too, after **Maltrasea** helped me figure out why my computer didn’t like it. I’m RavenSapphirewolf - my yellow Scorchio is Yadyra, my red Flotsam is Yshalla, my green Zafara is Yaneela, and my blue Wocky is Yaressa. I have a smaller shop, too. Oh yeah, and there’s a Guild that Mally and I are in, but it’s just us two. 😃 ---

I have several accounts, just because I wanted different kinds of pets. I also like to adopt. Same user name on my main account. That one actually got hacked, but I neomailed the hacker and got the account back, minus all my neopoints, of course. 🙂 ☹ ---

I was _Serafina\_pekkala_ for months and months, with a beautiful Blue Striped Aisha (named Queen Ruta) and Pantalaimon, a red Shoyru. I also fed **ARose** ’s pets all the time. I was horribly addicted, but finally shook it. I haven’t been back in months, because seeing them starve will kill me. Mebbe this summer I’ll finally sucuumb and start feeding them again. They have the cutest little PetPets…::eyes tear up:: I’m sure that **ARose** ’s pets (all 3! and the petpets!) are dying by now too. As soon as he ditched me, he ditched the additional baggage and lame neopet addiction. Can’t blame him. ---

I just got an account a few days ago, but I’m still trying to figure something out: what the hell can my pet actually _do_? So I can collect points and play games and such, but what’s that got to do with my pet? It’s got stats, but as far as I can tell, they’ve got no bearing on anything I do. I s’pose there’s the arena, but my pet can’t even hit Punchbag Bob. Over there I’m Rogue\_Istari; my pet’s a green Lupe named Ralaratri. ---

**Catalyst** , what you need to do is play some games, get some money (the neopoints), and with those NP, buy some weaponry. Get the “newbie pack” if you haven’t yet. It’ll give you a weapon to start off with. You equip your pet with the weapon(s) and use that to fight. Be warned - punchbag bob is a long haul. I gave up after two days of off and on.
