Nepal Abolishes Monarchy Today, Becomes Republic

Yep, I was wrong, it is Bhutan I was thinking of, not Nepal. Don’t know how I got them mixed up, especially as I was recently reading about Bhutan.

Which is a good argument right there for abolishing the Thai monarchy, if you ask me.

To be fair, the King himself doesn´t like those lese majeste laws.

Hasn’t the King of Thailand waded in to voice disapproval of what the politicians of that country do from time to time? With a bit more effect than other monarchs?

I wonder what Kiran Chetry thinks about it. She’s half-Nepalese and she’s an anchor on CNN. Did she do a report on it for American Morning? Anyone know??

It is my understanding that the latest coup in Thailand was made fairly bloodless due to the brokering by the King.

Um… why doesn’t he just abolish them, then?

He doesn’t have the power to. The law is usually used as a weapon against enemies of the government.
