How about UC Santa Cruz’ Banana Slugs\*? I’ve seen T-shirts supporting the Banana Slugs appearing as a “nerd” prop in Pulp Fiction (“You guys look like a couple of dorks!”) and on a YouTuber with technical skills…I guess he was given this shirt by a fan. \*If you’ve ever hiked in the hilly woods near Santa Cruz you will see why they chose this mascot. The trails up in the San Juan Islands (WA state) are also littered with them. ---

Pedantic football nerd nit: [Ryan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Ryan_(American_football)) played college ball at Rice (in Houston), then played for the Los Angeles Rams, Cleveland Browns, and Washington Redskins; his NFL career ran from 1958-70. The Houston Texans didn’t start play until 2002. ---
