Nero Wolfe

Well, The Golden Spidersisn’t one of my favorites in the series, so I’ll allow for that.

I always mentally hear Archie’s wisecracks said in a deadpan voice. Hutton’s delivery irritated me. I liked the voiceovers, though.

None of the recurring characters looked as I picture them.

But I love this series so much that no adaptation would make me happy.

**Felinecare[b/], I agree, GS is not my favorite book, but I was really disappointed they left out one of Archie’s better gags. When Archie dresses up as a mortician, before he leaves, he goes to the kitchen to show Fritz and says, “I’ve been appointed ambassador to Texas.” (Well, it made me laugh.)

I was also unhappy about Fritz. Why was he dressed as a butler? The production treated him as a servant, rather than a member of Wolfe’s ‘family.’

Five posts…guess it’s okay to post again…no one will call me Nero Wolfe-obsessed if I wait through five posts…

I agree about Fritz, asey, the batwing collar and bowtie bugged me, too. How the hell can you work in the kitchen if you aren’t comfortable?

He came across like the butler rather than the majordomo; someone unfamiliar with the books might not have even thought that he was the one responsible for COOKING all that stuff.

I don’t remember if Stout ever described what Fritz DID wear, but I always assumed an ordinary shirt with a soft collar, necktie, and one of those long plain white kitchen aprons that would cover his clothes from chest to thigh.

And pants, of course.

I always thought the “Dream Team” for Wolfe and Archie would have been Sydney Greenstreet and Humphrey Bogart.

Doesn’t Cramer or another of the cops pronounce “pfui” as “fooey”?

DAMN! Now you made me wish I had TV! What a rotten way to start a Monday morning - finding out that I missed a good Nero Wolfe. Oh well, maybe it’ll get rerun in a few years when I move back to town.

I taped it, do you want a copy?

Beyond any doubt, this is the truth.
