# .net 2.0--how do I know if I've got it installed?

I downloaded ATI’s newest Catalyst driver and control panel, and in the middle of installing it, it said I need .net 2.0 and to make sure I have it before I “run application.” (Which application? It didn’t say. Maybe it means the catalyst installer? Maybe it means the catalyst control panel? No idea.)
The message popped up, I hit “okay,” then it just continued installing.
Now it’s all installed, and I _seem_ to be able to use the control panel, and the driver _seems_ to be working. But I’ve never done anything I took to be “installing .net 2.0” Is it possible it came preinstalled on my laptop? (Bought a couple of months ago.) Is it possible things _seem_ to be working but my computer’s going to explode any minute now?
How do I check to see whether this thing’s installed? I don’t see it on my add/remove programs control panel, but descriptions of it make it look like more of a registry edit or something so it wouldn’t show up in add/remove programs.

as long as “net 2.0” = “[IPv6](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipv6),” you don’t really need to do anything to your home computer that isn’t built-in to current programs. It’s more a backhaul protocall.

Does it mean the .NET 2.0 framework from Microsoft?
It’s one of the “optional downloads” on Windows Update. I can’t think off the top of my head why a video card would require this, though. I have it because I program using .net.
You can check Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs for “Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0” to see if you have it, though.

In my experience, if you don’t have .NET installed when you try to install CCC, the installer will proceed without protest but the Catalyst Control Center will be badly broken after rebooting. IIRC, the last time I did this, the CCC wouldn’t open at all. So if you’ve rebooted the computer and can get into CCC, you’re all set.

It’s listed in “Add Remove Programs” as Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0.
