# Netflix for documentaries?

I’m a Netflix user but it seems like these days Netflix has less and less of the kind of programming I like – documentaries, music stuff.
Is there any kind of service out there that offers programming more to my taste?
I admit I’m weird that way, they’re not programming for me – even the suggestions Netflix makes are ridiculous, things that I wouldn’t care to watch, ever – maybe there isn’t anything I like, maybe I’m just weird.
Okay, no maybes about that last one, but if anyone would know it would probably be the people on this board. 🙂 So … what do you subscribe to, where do you go to get your movies on?

I’m surprised that you’re looking elsewhere for documentaries. Even the people I know who complain constantly about Netflix’s streaming service (not that that’s what you’re doing) begrudgingly say nice things about their documentary selection.
Maybe you though of this already, but have you checked Hulu? A lot of the better docs are only available through Hulu Plus, but there are still some good choices on the free side, like **Hoop Dreams**.

Netflix seemed to have a better selection when I signed up but more often these days when I look for something not only is it not available on Netflix but they refer me to something else – usually something else that is so moronic that I want to throw something. If I wanted something stupid I’d ask for it.
Will check out Hulu, though I was under the impression it was mostly about shows and not movies.

If you have a Roku, there are a lot of good documentaries spread throughout the channels there, especially on NowhereMan. We also use XBMC with a laptop connected to our tv. No shortage of content there. Lastly, YouTube has some good documentary channels like Vice, Ken Loach Films and Journeyman Pictures.
