Not sure what the OP is talking about, but Netflix got rid of their “recently watched” list for me, and now I have to search for all the shows I watch instead of conveniently having them at the top of the page. It’s really a pain, and I probably have a bunch of shows I’m not caught up on because I forgot I was watching them. I guess it’s to put more eyeballs in front of their newer offerings? Does anybody else have this problem? Started a couple of months ago for me.
Netflix tried to spin off DVDs a few years ago and users had a fit, now they've a worse mess and ...
Go to Your Account to find your recently watched, then add them to your watch list so you don’t need to find them again.
I don’t think “adapting” is the right word since it was more lucky than smart. They created Streaming as a supplement to the disk service and it turned out to take off like a rocket and eclipse the previous business model.
I’m pretty sure NetFlix saw that coming from the very beginning. Streaming has the potential to be a lower-cost delivery model (no postage costs, no damaged DVDs) with a much broader reach (the entire world) with lower fixed overhead costs (no local distribution centers).
There are only two things NetFlix can’t be sure of with streaming: rate of adoption by users, and availability of licensed content.
When Netflix announced the stupid plan to spin off the DVD-by-mail business as a separate company called Qwikster, Reed Hastings claimed that all along he wanted to set up a streaming company, and that’s why he called it Netflix. I’m skeptical. The origin story I heard was that he was annoyed at paying a late fee to Blockbuster and found that you could ship a DVD in an envelope for the price of a stamp. (And as the article I linked to above makes clear, even though Netflix treats the DVD-by-mail business like the proverbial redheaded stepchild, it’s making money while the streaming business is breaking even at best.)
