# networking a sony ps2

I picked up a linux magazine with what i thought was a CD , but turned out to be a DVD, oops.

Is it possible to /mnt a ps2 with samba, to a linux system ?

No, if you want to run Linux on a PS2, I think you need to find one of the Sony development kits for Linux.

Nope. The PS2 doesn’t have a conventional OS so there’s no way to export the DVD as a file system.  
You could get the Linux kit that **DreadCthulhu** mentioned but at that price you could get a dvd-drive for your computer and still have money left over.

Um… I don’t think PS2s use the SMB protocol for anything… why would they? And if they did, then you’d be able to use any 'doze machine…

I’m presuming you’re saying samba 'cause its one of the easier ways to share drives over a network. If you install [Linux on your PS2](http://playstation2-linux.com/), then you can share that drive any way you want. (If it was to another Linux box, I’d use NFS, but that’s just me).

I suppose your real question is does the plain vanilla PS2 advertise the use of it’s drive over a network, whether by SMB or whatever, and my WAG would have to be no.
