No joke, I heard Guillermo del Toro on the radio(NPR) and he said Galaxy Quest is one of the best movies he’d seen since he became a film-maker himself. He talked about how comedy like that is incredibly hard and it is just filled with so many funny moments and at the same time, it manages to pay homage to Star Trek without looking down on it. ---

It’s a masterclass in comedy writing; it has a very high number of quality gags and does so over the course of a story that’s perfectly paced. Every beat is hit at precisely the right moment. The only flaw I can see in the film - which is a huge compliment, even a great movie usually has more than one flaw - is the editing and pacing of the opening sequences at the fan convention. Other than that it’s as good a comedy as has ever been made. ---

As far as I can tell, Jay Webb only reviewed three movies in his career, saying about GQ: > Each actor plays an actor playing the sci-fi characters. It’s a bit difficult to keep track of who’s who, and ultimately the characters are so underdeveloped it’s even more difficult to care. As best I can tell, he just slept through the movie. ---
