There’s a link to an old game in one my first posts in this thread.
But let’s see your questions:
**Are high scores better than low scores? **
You want to have as many points/squid left in the end
How does the number of squids correspond to the numbers in each box, and the different colors?
The number in every box is how many squids you have left. The different colours mean: red - you didn’t do it, green - you did do it, purple - your statement, anything else - nothing special.
Am I the only girl left? Are you targeting the girls for elimination? Why are people getting eliminated?
I’m not targeting anyone for elimination. People get eliminated when they get below 1 squid with no chance to redeem themselves.
Please note that the basic principle is fine: people get eliminated when they get below one squid with no chance to redeem themselves. – that is, not chance to get any future positive points. The problem is the question of when they can redeem themselves (i.e.,
Current Approach: after one’s turn in Round 2, there is no chance for redemption, since there are no positive points in Round 3. Thus, the last time you can get positive points is on your turn in Round 2.
Alternative Approach 1: Allow positive points to accumulate in Round 3, but eliminate anyone at 0 score or less at end of each round. Under this approach, Ivory and Ellen would still have been dropped, but Happy Frood and Really-Not would still be in (and have a turn in Round 3.)
Alternative Approach 2: Allow positive points to accumulate in Round 3, but define “no chance for redemption” as meaning after one’s turn in Round 3. Under this approach, all four of our deceased comrades would have had a turn in Round 3. (My personal pref is this one, because I think everyone should be involved in the whole bit, and the winner determined at the end.)
I ain’t gonna say nothin’ about the inherent sexism in the system. Except perhaps to note that the “winners” of the game are people who have never done some of the fun, exciting, lively things that others have done – in short, the nerdier, dweebier, less adventurous, less open to new experiences…
I will however be on the move for much of late May, early June (moving countries and need to buy a new computer as this one ain’t coming with me), so I can’t handle another game. But I’d love to try to play, since that takes a lot less time.
(Why, yes. I’m angling for one of YOU to lead the next game )
And hey! The winner can also be the one who comes up with the most ludicrous statements who nets him/her the most points, even though your *tactic[/] would probably work better
I had to think about this in order to give an honest answer. I remember my brother calling BS on the Santa thing when I was about four, but I honestly can’t remember whether I believed in Santa before that. Since that is my earliest memory of Santa, I have to say that I have never believed in Santa.
I think that the play-order problem can be solved most simply by not officially dropping people off the cliff until the end of the current round (whichever that is). That way, the statements from those people are still in play, even if they can’t help them, and in round 2, live players can still gain squids from them.
