so is anyone else surprised by this…? Sooki recently said that she prefers to wear one-piece bathing suits to bikinis because “I’m a porky little Ewok.” I’m actually impressed she knows what an Ewok is. ---

I’m in pretty much the same situation. I’ve never watched the show but there was an article in _Entertainment Weekly_ about it a couple of weeks ago. That’s where I learned that there are people on the show called J-Wow and The Situation - I hadn’t heard of them before now. But I had heard of Snooki - so her fame has grown beyond the show. ---

I only know who Snooki is because I googled her after seeing a a comment about “getting that Snooki look” in reference to a photo of a woman immersed in a bathtub full of Cheetos. ---

Her tweeting with John McCain has been getting national news coverage. :rolleyes: Not to mention her whining about a tax on tanning salons and grouching that Obama has driven her to use spray-on tanner as a result. ---

Funny…The Situation is the only person on that show I could actually name…the ads for it that run here have a scene with him trying to do something over the phone, giving his name, and the operator not getting it. ---

Why wouldn’t Snooki know what an Ewok is? I don’t think they’re _quite_ (note that I say “quite”) as dumb as they seem, they’ve certainly found a way to exploit a personality and a character so that their fame and wealth has far eclipsed your average reality star. I don’t watch the show - I might if they played it on an Australian free-to-air channel - but yes the fame of these people has grown beyond it, and I suspect they’re appreciating every second of it while they can. ---

Snooki is the one who tried to hold out from doing season 2 because she thought she deserved to be paid more than the other “actors”. She didn’t want a raise, she just wanted to be paid MORE than anyone else on the show. I thought “The Situation” was what one of the “actors” named his abs? It isn’t actually HIS name… ---

It really is impossible to escape from pop culture, isn’t it? You just absorb the stuff directly out of the aether. I’ve never seen the show, but I’ve heard of both Snooki and JWow. For some reason I thought JWow was a guy, but apparently it’s a chick. ---

I haven’t watched MTV regularly since the 90s, when they still had music videos. I’ve seen Snooki on **The Tonight Show** a couple of times, though. ---

They say evolution is a slow process but I don’t really believe it. New races or subpopulations seem to be springing up all the time on their own. Maybe they were always there and no one ever noticed before but I am happy they are being documented in the wild now before they die out. I too have heard of a Snooki but I wouldn’t really know one if I saw it and I have never seen a photo as far as I know. A few years ago, I read in National Geographic or something that they discovered the group of people living in the wilds of America who called themselves the Kardashians. They made media contact with the outside world as well and I hear have done quite well selling stories about their traditional way of life. Every time I turn on the TV these days it seems that they seem to be finding an isolated subpopulation somewhere with exotic mating habits and customs. ---

I’ve seen the show a couple times. She’s right, she is a little Ewok. The only other thing I know about it is that the one who calls herself JWow has nice boobies.
