P.S. Link please

Never mind. You mean “Recent Additions” and the “[Why do car makers come up with so many meaningless car names?](http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a1_189.html)” column I suppose.
That’s a recent addition to _the front page_ (meaning it wasn’t listed there a week ago).

Ah nope, that particular kind of double-post can occur with only one click. It’s happened to me when I pick submit and the little Netscape logo flashes like it’s loading. Sometimes this takes a while, so I let it go. Never let it take more than 5 minutes or so, though! One time I minimized the window and forgot about it. I came back 30 minutes later, and it was still trying to load. I stopped it, and I had five posts in the thread!

Yup. I managed to do it twice today, in the same thread.

So “Today’s Question” is a brand new Cecil question while “Recent Additions” just means it’s a new addition to the website? I’m asking because I own ALL the Cecil books, and I just want to know where I can find the new columns. BTW : What percentage of Cecil’s columns are contained on this website?

Go to the [Archive Page](http://www.straightdope.com/columns/), scroll down to the section titled “Current Columns”.

I don’t know, but here’s your chance to contribute to our store of knowledge. Count the number of columns in the books you have, count the number of columns that appear on the archive page and related pages, and simple arithmetic will provide the answer. Voilà! For a small amount of work you can earn the undying gratitude of the Teeming Millions.

Wouldn’t that assume that every column Uncle Cecil has ever written made it into one book or the other?

I think that’s unfounded. Or at least unlikely!

Okay, one column a week since 2/2/73. That’s 1,579 weeks!

```auto
# of
columns web page
------- ------------------------------------------------------
351 http://www.straightdope.com/columns/
 53 http://www.straightdope.com/columns/1999index.html
 52 http://www.straightdope.com/columns/2000index.html
 52 http://www.straightdope.com/columns/2001index.html
149 http://www.straightdope.com/classics/classicindex.html
---
657
```

In these lists I found 24 columns with the exact same title as others. Eliminating these duplicates, the total comes to 633 columns. Call it roughly 630 for dups I didn’t catch.

630/1579 = roughly 35% of all of Cecil’s columns are online.

I’ll let someone else count the number of columns in the books.

No, I don’t have a life. Why do you ask? 😃

I think **rowrrbazzle** should get a little bronze hamster or something for doing all this work.

Thanks, rowrrbazzle!
