So if one is a member of an organized religious tradition, and follows random woo because his leaders tell him to do so, is that better? The OP seems to trying to apply a standard akin to TheyChangedItNowItSucks to religion. Only authorized authorities count. I’m not sure I agree. And yet, I’d probably agree that this type of behavior makes it easy to grab the parts of religion they want and probably not the ethically difficult stuff. But then again, so does more traditional religion. 😉 ---

I also have a problem with new agers, and what seems like their hypocrisy, and naive optimism. But, maybe- if we all join hands, burn sage, and sing kumbaya while lying naked in the mud, the Great Spirit will come, and give us our dream warrior names. I got dibs on running deer. ---

Reading the OP, I discovered that I now have an image in my head related to mixing religious symbols. I think I got it from The Language Imperative, but I’m not sure. The author ran across a tourist trinket shop overseas. It had a little statuette of a crucified Santa Claus for sale. ---
