We recently switched to using Microsoft Teams for phone calls, instead of a regular landline (or corporate PBX). Not that big of a deal, as I don’t use the phone too often. It rings on my personal mobile, but that’s also not a big deal, as my work number was forwarded there anyway for work from home. The problem: Teams does not make a noise to indicate when a call _dis_connects. A call drops, for who knows what reason, and there I am, yammering like an idiot, into a sleeping phone. ---

I understand your disgruntlement and to some extent agree, but we can’t realistically expect people who have no experience with the alpha-bravo-charlie alphabet to use it. I do have issues with hearing ‘K as in can’t’. The list of people responsible for that is long and undistinguished. My rant. More required online education. Not an issue in and of itself, but the quiz questions just pissed me off with the amount of irrelevant information I was expected to know. Subbing in OSHA because pretty much everyone is aware of it. There is absolutely no need for me to know that it was established in 1922. Nobody needs to know that standards for Vertical Tandem Lifts were introduced in 2008. Aside from lawyers and compliance offices. Section 19 of the OSHA Act of 1970 establishes something or another. Also only of interest to lawyers and compliance officers. ---

I work for a hospital system scheduling etc for the primary care offices and a few specialties. We had a systems crash at work on Tuesday. All of the programs we need to do our jobs suddenly went down, not just on our side but on the practice side as well. This, obviously, sucked but programs will crash and IT was on it. They got it fixed after about an hour of us wailing and gnashing our teeth. Since this crash was so unexpected and significant, clearly some work needed to be done on the back end of these programs. Those in charge of this got to work and the updates were ready to be installed today. Automatically. At nine o’clock in the morning. When we are busy. And it happened on the nonclinical and clinical sides. And it required the programs suddenly closing while we were using them so the updates could be installed. Again, at nine o’clock in the morning. Fortunately it came back up fairly quickly…for most of us. I know of at least one specialist who threw his hands up in the air and went home because he couldn’t get his programs to work after the update and IT couldn’t either. I really hope someone got their ears pinned back for the lousy update timing. I’m willing to bet actual American dollars that some idiot confused a.m. and p.m. and that’s why this whole clusterfuck happened. ---

It must be a regionalism. I picked it up from one of my co-workers The fun continues today! A not-insignificant portion of my department (including me) can’t get into the programs we need to do our jobs today because IT b0rked something on their end. We still have to take calls per leadership but the rest of the department is helping us out by taking urgent calls for rescheduling, refills, etc. I appreciate the help from my co-workers who are awesome as usual. HOWEVER. I am having minor panic attacks and am on the verge of a crying breakdown due to the stress of not being able to get into my programs and actually fucking do my job. And I can’t bang out because I’m almost at the limit of how many times I can bang out without getting fired. Which is not helping my stress levels AT ALL. I keep hoping & praying they’ll let those of us who can’t get in log out for the day since this makes no fucking sense at all. But whoever said corporations made sense? ---
