I’ve also caught little sound-bites about her Baptist-virgin-'til-marriage stance – which stuck in my mind because I personally don’t think a virgin-'til-marriage stance is a good idea – and the fact that she’s “involved” (and may or may not still be a virgin) with some pop music star named Justin something-or-other. … Which, of course, leads to the inevitable question: Has Britney Spears, in fact, Flurked his Schmit in a Holy manner? 😉 ---

“Choose to avoid”, nothing. I don’t even own a TV, and the last time I turned on the radio was the 1997 World Series. I live in a town of 30,000, and I’ve _still_ gotten more Britney Spears than I can stand. ---

Well, one thing I can say for both her and ms. lopez is that at least they look like they actually consume food. I mean, they aren’t pudge, but they aren’t skeleton skinny. That, and their songwriters are absolutely brilliant when it comes to penning pop hits. You know, oddly enough madonna had the same type of figure when she first showed up in videos, not fat, but not exactly skinny either. Now she looks like a tough old bird with all her muscles. Most of the dudes in the brit vid look like wimps though, about 15 years old. Ick. bwk ---

Saw the video. I am waaaay past the point where this brand of lame “suggestiveness” can have any effect on me. Frankly, I’m astonished that this is selling at all. When Ms. Ciccone did her like-a-virgin-but-not-really act, it came at a time when _it was genuinely shocking_. There were news articles all over the country railing against her moral depredation and bad influcence on little girls and blah blah blah. IIRC, there was an entire _organization_ set up just to contain her pervasive influence. And when the novelty wore off, she shifted gears…you know, the kissing a black statue or whatever era. Then the “spiritual” bit. She’s always managed to stay one step ahead of everyone else by knowing what was shocking, what was titillating, and how to work it to her advantage. In contrast, Britney Spears is no different from countless other “suggestive” (bleck) singers who just look like they’re trying too hard. Another very important difference is that Madonna can sing, whereas Britney sounds like she was pulled out of a high school glee club. I mean, _listen_ to that voice sometimes. For that matter, does she have any kind of vocal range? I dunno…when a singer dependent on music videos and sexiness for her very livelihood, something tells me it’s not gonna last. ---

**Madonna can sing???** My goodness, I’m reading all sorts of fascinating nonsense here. FWIW, Spears’ vocal ability is more or less on par with Madonna’s. Compare and contrast Spears at Star Search (age 12, or so) with Madonna _trying_ to sing in _Dick Tracy_. If anything, Spears shows greater range and power. ---
