It’s like the excreable Da Vincis code of Dan Brown: we have the original book as source and about two dozen books written by experts in various fields refuting his points. Each of these refutations give students real (historical, theological etc.) knowledge along with a demonstration in skeptical evaluation of outrageous claims. So used the right way, even Chick tracts are useful. What this tract reminded me off was the revengeful God of Left Behind and the discussion over at Fred Clarks slacktiverse (now on new server). The same horrible gleeful sociopathic enjoyment of other people’s suffering. ---

There are some dubious (IIRC) Bible passages that seem to say such; some theologians don’t buy it. It’s not too surprising that the Bible leaves such a “serious” matter vague, though. There actually isn’t a single reference to eternal hell-fire, a Judgment Day, or even eternal bliss for the godly in the Torah, aka Pentateuch. In the later Bible books there emerge some indications of an afterlife, with rewards and punishments, but there are plenty of contradictions on the subject. * * * Back to the tract: I’d say it’s "curtains’ for the oldest lad who drove a vehicle. The middle son who committed suicide is a bit hard to call. I doubt very much that Chick would have the youngest son aware enough for his sins to count against him. The tracts are available in several languages, and in some cases don’t have any text at all (for people who wish to witness to illiterates). Back when there were public phones, I used to find them on the little shelves. I still find them on the counters of public women’s rooms. And Jack encourages giving out the tracts for Halloween, though he advises giving a piece of candy with the tracts. And I’ve seen people leave tracts as a tip in a restaurant, instead of money. However, Jack, in his infinite kindness, has made certain tracts available for embedding. For free! Well, first, I really wish people would stop taking my name in vain! And in a Chick-tract thread, no less! 😉 I actually once did print a copy or two of one. It was the one with the impossible boss that the newly converted Christian lady was about to stop praying for. I found it hysterical that the tyrant-boss didn’t see any similarity to himself. If JTC refers to Chick, then yes, he has said this: he’s even made a whole tract. It’s about a sheriff who catches a killer and murderer: the killer is visited in prison by the pastor, and repents on the gallows (literally in the last minute); the sheriff is also approached by some fundie, but rejects this because he’s a good guy keeping the commandments. Later the same day, the sheriff gets bitten by a snake out in the wilderness and also dies, both come before judgement and the sheriff gets thrown into hell because his name isn’t in the book. Landoverbaptist church had a nice essay mocking this, about how the congregation rejoiced at the thought that a serial child killer would be re-united with his victims after his death because he’d converted just in time. (Do I need to search for links, or does everybody remember what I’m talking about?) ---

I had never seen such ugly cows in all the land of Egypt.”. You could reasonably imply that the cows’ scrawniness was a deciding factor in God giving Egypt the short end of the stick with the plagues and all, when he was shedding graces left and right. I mean, why waste a perfectly good grace on ugly and scrawny cows? To address your other point, Anakin became Darth Vader, not exactly a paragon of good or virtue. That’s what being scrawny does to you. You go to the dark side. Let me also add, that in Return of the Jedi, it is a distinctly **plump** Anakin that makes an appearance as a ghost / spirit during the Ewok feast of celebration. So there you go. ---
