[/QUOTE] Welcome to the world of Christian Zionism… First, unless one thinks that most modern-day Jews are descendents of the medieval Khazarite converts to Judaism or some other converted group, the Jews of the present State of Israel are indeed mainly decended from the Biblical Israelites. Second, many evangelical Christians believe that God has a destiny for the Jewish people and the nation of Israel, which will ultimately result in their accepting Jesus as Messiah, which will then result in even greater blessings for the world. This seems to be indicated by Paul in Romans 9-11. They also believe that Christians are called to repent of the Church’s past persecutions of the Jews and support the State of Israel. Support for the State of Israel has been a major foreign policy stance of the U.S. Christian Right for the past 30 years. Now, a great many of these Christians, like Jack Chick, John Hagee, Tim LaHaye, believe this restoration of Israel/the Jewish people will be the outcome of the ordeal of the AntiChrist & his defeat by the return of Jesus. Some, not as visible yet, however see other less-Apocalyptic & more optimistic possibilities, even perhaps involving the evangelism & national cohesion of Palestinians. And yes, I’m essentially a Christian Zionist, formerly a Rapturist one, now a more Hopeful & less belligerent one… most days. ---

I would add to \*\*FriarTed’\*\*s good explanation that some subset of hard-core Christians looking for the Rapture believe that their reading of scripture indicates that [Temple must be re-established](http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071102195920AAIDsC6) before Jesus can come again. So they tend to support not only Israel but the most right-wing Israeli’s they can possibly find. ---

Just lose the Hawaiian shirt and leave the little fellow out on the lawn in the rain for a week or so. Or give it to the dog to play with for a few days. Chick’s apparent antipathy to \*Fraggle Rock \* is surely worth a tract all by itself. ---

It sucks that Satan has to go to church. I mean, you’d think you’d get to sleep in on a Sunday morning, but noooo. I felt really sorry for the poor workingman demon who got stuck babysitting a grave just to have a glorified body raptured up his ass, too. And the little rat demon was, IMHO, very cute. ---
