What’s it about?
A conversation between an Israeli (formerly Brit) and Palestinian Arab. Their personal experience living in Israel and West Bank. Their experience travelling from one to the other. Their understanding of what drives and motivates their respective communities - the good and the bad. Importantly, their shared approach to reach a peaceful solution.
The conversation is refreshingly non-adversarial and empathetic towards one another’s experiences. Interestingly, their common take on the non-viability of a two state solution and the (perhaps not so) novel alternative solution for peace.
Worth the 45 mins, IMO.
…not keen to listen to a 45-minute video from the “Israel Advocacy Movement.” Perhaps you could summarize.
I’m not keen on reading your wall-o-text posts, but I do it, more often than not.
If the channel name makes you clutch your pearls then don’t watch it.
…I make “wall of text arguments” because I make my case in this thread, with citations to back me up. That’s the entire point of threads like this. So we don’t have to watch random 45-minute videos.
I’d be clutching my pearls to a video presented by the “Gaza Advocacy Movement” as well. I’d do my research on them firstly, and if I had any doubts, I’d find an alternative source. But I would (and I have in the past) declare any obvious bias in any source I’ve linked to.
I think you missed quite a bit of bias.
You make long posts because you can’t help being a pedantic and insufferable bore.
It’s just a video of two considerate and thoughtful people talking. Two people who actually live there. Unlike the rest of us who just b.s. all day long like we know what the hell we’re talking about.
Watch. Don’t watch. IDGAF.
…care to be specific?
Moderating:
You are attacking the poster here. This is not allowed. Do not do it again.
Calling someone “pedantic” is too much for P&E, calling them an “insufferable bore” is straight out insulting anywhere.
I just came across this video and I think it’s extremely worth a watch. Some very accurate criticism of both sides. The guy being interviewed has a YouTube channel where he has asked Israelis, Arab Israelis, and Palestinians all kinds of questions about all kinds of topics (related to the conflict and otherwise) for quite a few years now and he seems to have a very solid grasp of where people are on both sides.
@QuickSilver, you might find this interesting.
Wow, I’m coming across a lot of fascinating interviews on this topic recently.
The full interview is definitely worth a watch, if you can deal with subtitles.
Motaz Azaiza, a famous Palestinian journalist who has even been cited here on the Door a number of times, made a number of revelations in an interview that he undoubtedly didn’t think would get this much play, since it’s entirely in Arabic and over three hours long. But it’s also beyond interesting.
Azaiza confirms a number of facts that many of us have already suspected; for example, that all journalists in Gaza are part of a WhatsApp group where Hamas tells them what they can and cannot say. Journalists who don’t toe Hamas’ lines are not allowed to work anymore at best, and disappeared at worst.
In other parts of the video he admits to withholding footage of the Israeli hostages being beaten and abused.
He also admits that many journalists are direcrly part of terrorist groups.
On the bright side, he also explains his disillusionment with Hamas; he charges them with knowingly destroying Gaza through their actions and with giving up the opportunity to avoid the war entirely by agreeing to disarmament on Oct 11, 2023.
The full interview… It’s three and a half hours long and in Arabic, so it’s no wonder he spoke freely - he probably didn’t imagine it would reach many Western eyeballs.
Meanwhile, a lawsuit has uncovered proof that TWENTY FOUR Al Jazeera “journalists” who operated in and reported from Gaza during this conflict were in fact Hamas and PIJ terrorists. Thanks to the courts, Al Jazeera was forced to fire them; one wonders how many didn’t get caught…
Even if this is all true, it doesn’t remotely justify the spate of atrocities in the West Bank and Gaza. Being on a Whatsapp group with members of Hamas should not be a death sentence.
…just to be very clear about what the Ynet article actually says:
It doesn’t say they were actually Hamas and PIJ terrorists. They were named in a lawsuit. But that doesn’t mean they are guilty. And merely being named in a lawsuit doesn’t meet any evidentiary standards at all. The fact that a big corporation decided to take the safe option shouldn’t be any surprise at all. The courts didn’t “force them to fire them.”
And these terminations happened last month. At the time the terminated employees weren’t told why they had been fired. They were also given the chance to stay on as freelancers.
As for Hamas censorship: I don’t think anyone needs reminding that Hamas are bad guys.
But here’s the state of media censorship in Israel:
There are currently 37 Palestinian journalists held in Israeli jails. 19 of them are in administrative detention, which means they have not been charged and don’t get a proper trial. They don’t get an opportunity to defend themselves.
It is no secret that probably every member of the press in Israel also served in the IDF, and the IDF stands credibly accused of committing multiple atrocities in Gaza and the West Bank, including the killing of Hind Rajab, the killing of Refaat Alareer, the killing of 15 paramedics and aid workers on March 23rd 2025, the killing of 273 people and wounding 698 on the 8th of June 2024.
If being part of a WhatsApp group with Hamas and being censored makes Palestinian journalists in Gaza legitimate targets, then being former IDF makes every Israeli journalist a legitimate target as well.
But I don’t think that’s right. I think journalists deserve protection no matter what side they are on. I think the deliberate targeting of Palestinian journalists in Gaza is an atrocity and a war crime, and my hope is that when this is all over, those responsible are punished.
And a reminder that it isn’t just journalists that have been targeted. According to the last Gaza-reported impact snapshot on the 9th of September, Israel have killed:
-262 journalists and media workers
-596 aid workers
-1700 health workers (there is some overlap with aid as per the cite)
145 civil defense staff
I’ll say that refardless of the truth behind thr lawsuit or any other allegations, Al Jazeera is RT- style state media and also we’ve seen tons of evidence from independent press outside of Gaza of Israel’s conduct in the war. A wide range of independent press, from outside Gaza, has extensively reportted that Israel chose policies during this to punish civillians in Gaza, destroy their homes etc., at times with justifications from unmamed sources or naned officials to use civillian harm to pressure Hamas into favorable negotiations, and at times with at least the implication of pressuring civilians to leave. Even Israeli media not known for being particularly pro-Palestinian has reported this.
