New Ebay tactic, revenge buying.

I’m not sure it’s so easy as that now - doesn’t eBay do a load of identity check stuff?

I mean, I guess if you used a friend’s address and a different credit card, they wouldn’t spot it, but I thought they had cracked down pretty hard on people either creating new IDs after being suspended, or even having multiple accounts (without linking them to a real ID)

In this case and with that evidence I would consider a crusade if eBay won’t do anything about it.

Had a message from Ebay this morning, they took the matter very seriously and warned the buyer. I also received payment for the auction this morning too. The person from Ebay also wants me to let them know if there is any other problems, such as unwarranted negative feedback, so they can take care of it right away. Just to be safe, I have already blocked the buyer from bidding on anything else I list. I won’t be listing anything for a while, I’m off to New Zealand for 3 weeks beginning next week.

Racer72, glad it’s sorted out. Make sure you follow all the Paypal rules for shipping, so he can’t hit you with a chargeback claiming he didn’t get the item. I’d use signature confirmation just in case.

As far as I know they don’t do any identity checks at all for buyers. You don’t need a credit card to register, only to sell. And there’s no problem reusing the same address - multiple people can live at one address. If you were just making up IDs for revenge bidding, you’d use a fake address anyway.

Ebay don’t have any problem with multiple IDs. The IDs aren’t allowed to interact in any way (it’s illegal as well as against the rules to bid on your own auctions, for example) - but if you have one ID for selling and another for buying, or you create a new ID to buy your husband’s Christmas presents without him knowing, that’s fine.

In principle, if you’re suspended under one ID and create a new one, they’ll suspend that too - but in practice, they don’t check. If someone reports the new ID with solid evidence linking it to a suspended one, it’ll get booted, but that’s the only way.

Crayola has discontinued some colors over the years. Can’t buy them new anymore. So they become collectible (as do old box and wrapper designs).
