Because he’s not a knight. Half this thread including the post you quoted is about that.

Absolutely, it’s a really big deal in Westeros. Even a hedte knight waking up drunk in a gutter has a greater station than the average person.

Gotcha, I agree that he isn’t, I misread your post as saying he _was_ knighted but felt as if he didn’t have the right which is what I thought didn’t make sense.

> Being a knight in and of itself doesn’t seem to convey any particular advantage, other than that you successfully squired for someone who taught you how to swordfight.

It’s a professional guild; like any other, nobody who’s part of it wants it cheapened. In Westeros it’s the only one that can lend itself to an increase in social standing. So I would say that the knights themselves understand the gravity of making someone a knight only if they would want that person fighting at their back.

I think that would Season 3 then, unless I’ve forgotten them being in two different novellas.

Yep, it’s completely clear that Brienne is Dunks granddaughter if you join the dots (rather than great which could also be true). It might be from Eggs sister Rae who tried to give Egg a love potion to marry him, and got married off to another noble, she’s the prime prospect for grandmother. Now that’s a theory.

There’s no need to be a knight in the Kingsguard. The hound wasn’t.

I’d say more a few months, Egg has to grow up and him being around that size seems to work for the novellas. I’d say it was a couple of weeks between the first and the second novella, possibly a month. Yep, he’s wounded, but at that age recovers fast.

Need, no (although the Hound was a scandal at the time). But it’ll be important to Dunk, and Egg will be the only one he trusts with his secret.

It was definitely more than weeks between the first and second - in between books, they travel to Dorne, then Oldtown, and then to the northwest corner of the Reach, with multiple extended stops in each region. That’s months at the very least. And Dunk was probably looking for Tanselle’s troop in Dorne, which meant he would have meandered quite a bit

Regarding Henry Cavill, season 2/3 spoilers: In season 2, the Sworn Sword Dunk and Egg come into the employ of Ser Eustace Osgrey, a former supporter of Daemon Blackfyre and veteran of the battle of Redgrass field, the first Blackfyre rebellion. House Osgrey has since fallen on hard times partially as a result of betting on the wrong horse. Dunk and Egg initially don’t know of his former rebel status and only find out later. They consider leaving him at his most vulnerable but rule it out because it would be dishonorable. At this time Ser Eustace has a great monologue on why he supported the Blackfyre cause. A two timeline season would have a young and old Ser Eustace. Also during the battle Baelor and Maekar earn the nicknames the hammer and the anvil respectively because of the tactics they use to secure victory. They already showed a young Dunk scavenging the aftermath of Redgrass field with Rafe in episode 5. It would fill out the lore nicely. Season 3, the Mystery Knight was a tournament that served as a pretext to organizing a sixth Blackfyre rebellion. [\spoiler]

Those are all sort of about the same area, and Dorne doesn’t have to be the far reaches of it, can be just across the mountains. It’s all sort of South West/Middle of Westeros west of Kings Landing, we’re not talking months to get there, that would be the North.

Westeros is really, really big. Ashford to Dorne to Oldtown to Standfast is probably more than 1000 miles just as the crow flies; and they weren’t in a hurry. They probably stopped in Oldtown alone for a week or longer. Likely several other places too. There’s no way it was just a few weeks. Months for certain and maybe a year or more.

Maybe they’ll change it for the show (though I don’t know why – the actor will have aged a year and probably be quite a bit taller). But in the books it’s clearly months or longer.

There’s definitely going to be an issue with Eggs age in the show if they even do the three novellas alone, never mind the promises of a master editor of the Wildcards series (you really can’t call him an author anymore).

I’m optimistic so far. This season has been so amazing that I’m very hopeful the next two will be similarly great (as they have the books to guide them). Beyond that, we’ll see.

I thought it was at least a couple years between stories, which is why I thought this adaptation was a great idea. Travel in Westeros takes months to get anywhere, and I don’t think they would be in a hurry. If they do film the unwritten stories I assume at least two would happen decades later, if they go with the obvious ones.

I read the novellas a couple of weeks ago, and I believe there’s more than a year between the first and second story, so if the actor playing Egg gets older, it fits the storyline.

Yeah, it’s my peeve as well. It seems as though some of the scenes were written by 12-year-olds.

A question after reading comments above: Does a knight have a right to knight a knight at night? Or must he first fight any knight in sight before knighting that knight?

A knight has the right to knight any knight in sight, in the light or at night, whether before or after he might fight a fight against another knight. Even a knight with the height (and might!) of the esteemed Ser Duncan the Tall.

I think the finale works as the last act of a movie, but wasn’t great as an episode of television. The season though? Great! Always thought it would be good and exceeded my expectations. Excited for the next season.

Some of the best bits throughout the show were the interactions between Dunk and Egg. The novella says Dunk is about 16-17 so it’s very much like a sibling relationship.
