New! Improved! Musical Lovers' Salon and Debating Society

Take it up with Archive Guylamia and I both voted for “something by Busby Berkeley” but didn’t get sufficiently specific, so he did.

Given that Footlight may be my favorite musical ever, you’ll get no argument about how GD’35 belongs on a much lower tier. Unwatchable? Well, that’s open to debate (note our group name), plus sometimes, mediocre musicals have indelible moments, and those are worth exploring, too. This was never about exploring the “best” as mere canon fodder–we wanted to cast things a bit farther afield. GD’35 seemed a good place to start (and obviously, any discussion of Busby will bring up his superior works anyway…)

Okay, here’s the 8 Women thread.

Not the most brilliant OP ever – sorry!

Oh, forgot to remind y’all of the next film – Gold-Diggers of 1935. Two weeks would be Friday the 5th – let’s say Monday the 8th, it’s summertime and the livin’ is easy. (woo hoo! I’m on vacation the first week of August! I’m probably gonna be late to that thread as well.) Archive Guy will be providing the OP.

Archive Guy tells me he’ll be doing the OP for Gold Diggers sometime early next week.

Dunno what happened to ArchiveGuy – since I haven’t found a copy of this, I can’t write an OP. (I’ve seen it – on the big screen, even – but not recently.)

Rather than hold things up indefinitely, let’s set a date for the next film:

Cabaret – OP on Tuesday, September 13th.

I’ll be posting the OP today–sorry about the delay…
