New Info On The 1918 Origins Of The Spanish Flu [Article is from Jan 2014]

Its not worth posting and wasting my time. I’m done and out of this thread

Well, if you decide to unflounce, I am pretty curious about how came across the original 7-year-old article. Was it from some news feed? If so, would you consider that a reputable source? And, why would they bring it back up, if there was no additional info on the geographic source?

So, you initially posted a 14 year old article about an old theory from a historian that maybe the 1918 flu pandemic originated in China, which is not in line with current theories.

When it’s pointed out that this is not “NEW” info, you then posted a link to a recent paper that is based on a pre-print of an article that outlines how researchers have been able to sequence the 1918 flu genome from preserved lung tissue. In this NEW article, there is no mention whatsoever that anyone has postulated that this genome tells us anything about the origin of the 1918 virus. (I read the original preprint posted on bioRxiv.)

In short, there is nothing whatsoever to back up your original post.

So this made you upset and off you go.

Okay then

Now, the op article has a 404 not found code it haa been removed from the original link I provided. My suspicians are that in this volitle time in the USA’s history it was removed to protect the reputation’(s) of the late Mr Humphries and the war college. Hes already been called. Xenophic just in this thread.

The link still works for me.

I highly doubt that the national geographic would suddenly take down a page based on your OP. The straight dope is not that influential.

And NOBODY in this thread has called Mr. Humphries Xenophobic.

What has been said is that “Whatever the merits of Humphries research, and it might yet be proven true, it’s being promoted here as a racist, xenophobic dog whistle.”

It’s the current promotion of a 14 year old theory with little evidence that is being called into question. Combine that with a subsequent link to a research paper that has no connection whatsoever to the origin of the virus, and the whole OP starts to smell bad.

I was googling the Spanish flu I just kept entering different words.

Updates, history of, genome sequencing and other words I don’t remember each word per se. Thats how I research all my articles in search of the elusive article that provides as much info as possible while trying not to offend ‘anyone’. I’ve come to the conclusion that an impossible task when dealing with humans on any public internet discussion.

OK, thanks.

Nobody here is “offended”

I was referring to another link to the war college. My mistake. I went back to that link since i discovered the info on the China tie in.
Edited to add
Origins on the Spanish flu Mark Humphries research which included China. Date 2014

Off topic but I feel compelled to say this.
In other post which I included 3 to 5 links to back up my posts a couple times I was reported for spamming the board. FYI I can’t win for losing. That’s why I am aggravated and I am to the point of saying **** it.

You were actually reported a couple of times for spamming because you included 3-5 links?

Excuse me if I find this incredibly hard to accept.

Certainly your links have been called a “jumbled mess”, but that’s not the same as reporting them.

This is weird, because I try and provide cites in the form of links for most of my claims and I’ve never been accused of spamming. Did you provide context to the link or just dump a bunch of links? Were they links to your own blog?

Yes I did. Posting multiple sources on discourse is very difficult ex: copy paste 2 paragraphs x 3 or 5 times then discourse add the link twice. Once for my 2 parqgraph quotes and again for same link but a preview of the link. I post from a older phone which is old and worn out couple that with a slow internet speed while trying to edit out duplicated links and a tiny window in which to do it it’s a frigging nightmare.

Right now i have a 2 inch wide window and 1 inch tall window to see what I’m typing.

You may be having difficulties seeing what you type, but you know full well the context in which you are posting. And you have been called out on it.

Regardless go read the 2021 link. Then read other link. If you don’t see the reason not my problem. Fact is there was NEW RESEARCH on the SPANISH FLU. That and the GENOME SEQUENCING was the reason for sharing the post.

Nevermind I thought I was responding to the Spaniah Flu thread.

I read the 2021 link. And the original preprint research paper.
It has NOTHING TO DO with the origins of the spanish flu. You know, the words you put in the title of the OP, and nothing to do with your statement that “If this is true I guess history will have to be amended”.

You posted a 14 year old article about a historian with an opinion about a virus origin being in China.
And then you tried to backtrack with a more recent article that had nothing whatsoever to do with the virus origin.

And the context of this? Interesting how this is posted just when there is renewed interest in blaming China for Covid, and renewed interest in the conspiracy theory that Covid was whipped up in a lab in China. I’m sure that this is just an absolute coincidence that you posted your OP at this particular time.

My post has NOTHING TO DO WITH COVID. GET OFF MY ASS!

The part about 'History being amended had to do with the SPANISH FLU NOT COVID!
