Well according to [the Sun](http://icseftonandwestlancs.icnetwork.co.uk/icsouthport/nationalnews/tm_objectid=15371332&method=full&siteid=60252&headline=daniel-craig--the-next-james-bond--name_page.html) the next James Bond will be [Daniel Craig](http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0185819/) from Layer Cake. Hmmmm, not the best choice IMHO but I’ll guess we will see. ---

Meh. I’ve given up caring. If it wasn’t manifestly apparent before, _Die Another Day_ clearly showed that Eon has milked the Bond franchise for all it was ever worth, then run it through an industrial flaxseed oil press to squeeze out what little bit of life might be left. They could cast Lyle Lovett as James Bond for all I care at this point. In a way, it’s a good thing Val Kilmer-starred _The Saint_ film crashed and burned, leaving the Roger Moore series as the definitive version. I’d hate to think what movie studios would have done with that if they’d been able to milk it for a profit. Stranger ---

Granted, it’s being written by the same idiots who gave us _The World Is Not Enough_ and _Die Another Day_. How good it is depends on how faithful they are to the novel but they probably can’t do any worse than the 1967 version with Niven, Sellers & Allen. ---

Interesting news. I think Craig could make an excellent Bond. At least we know he can quote poetry, should that ever be called for. The question I have is whether the new CR will be shot as a Cold War period piece, with Le Chiffre loyal to his commie handlers in Moscow, or updated to the present – in which case Le Chiffre could report to a thinly-veiled Putin faction of KGB irredentists or something. I’m thinking Gerard Depardieu for the villain… and as for Vesper Lynd, it would be great if they could get Gwyneth Paltrow. That would be a bit of stunt casting, giving Gwyneth a chance to work against type, and reuniting her with Daniel Craig in yet another cinematic love/hate relationship. Plus, she’d have a martini named after her character, which is always cool. ---

I never heard of any other version of _Casino Royale_, especially one starting David Niven or Peter Sellers. And any mother’s fool would know that Woody Allen could never, in a million years, be cast as James Bond. What, do you think I’m dumb enough to fall for that woosh? As for the new version, they’ll screw it up, royale-ey. _snicker_ The story is way too simple, with not nearly enough gadgetry or world-dominating villians for the current production team, or the audience for that matter. It’ll be a moral victory if it actually features a casino. Although Brosnan has been surprisingly good in the role, the stories and dialog have left much to be desired. The only one I really enjoyed was _Tomorrow Never Dies_, and that was largely because of the presence of the lovely, arse-kicking Michelle Yeoh. Stranger
