New Kitty, And I Need Help!

I guess that must be it. She is spayed, so I don’t think it’s that, and she’s been to the vet, so I don’t think she hurts. I hate to admit that I did let her come outside with me a few times, and she does meow a lot around the doors, but everywhere else as well. She sits in the windows, of which there are many, and looks out, a lot. Sigh. I do not want to let her be an outside cat, as we live near a very busy street right in the city and I’ve heard an outside cat lives an average of 3 years compared to 17 years for an inside cat. But neither can I live with this meowing forever. She’s very, VERY sweet and affectionate and I don’t want to get rid of her and I can’t see doing that.

Where is the Cesar Milan for cats- The Kitty Whisperer?

Maybe get another cat? She might be used to having a buddy.

Did the lady you got her from ever answer you back?

I adopted a dog and two cats last year and it surprised me that two of the people that I updated did not seem to care about the updates. I sent them emails and pictures several weeks after adopting them to let them know they were doing well. Both replies I got consisted of “Thanks”.

The last cat I adopted the person actually contacted me. She took down the adoption ad and I had not saved her email address. She left me a message with her email addy and I sent her a message with pics so she could see that Beastie was well and I had not fed him to some rabid dog or anything. She sent a very nice response and was happy he was doing well.

I had to find a home for one of my dogs several years ago and it killed me that the lady that helped me find him a home never got back to me when I asked for an update nor the man that adopted him.

We learned, when we got our two, that the way they are when you first get them is absolutely no prediction at all of what they’re “really like”. Takes a couple weeks for everything to fall out.

Oddly enough, the meowing has lessened a great deal since my update a couple days ago. Part of it may be that she seems to have come to slightly accept that she’s not going outside again- it’s been several days since I let her out, which I now realize was a huge mistake if I want her to be an outside cat but live and learn. But part of it is that she’s found a great new toy which occupies her a large percentage of the time now… a straw. A bendy drinking straw. Cats are weird.

straws are fun for kittycats. i started bringing them home when i read about a cat that loved them. sure enough they were a big hit. they just love fanging them.

the ones from mcdonalds seem to be the most fun. they have a larger diameter than most.

i’m hoping to get one of the straws the bubble tea places use. they look promising.

If she hasn’t yet, she will start teething on that straw soon. Look for little holes. Get her plenty of OK things to chew on, and she will be less likely to chew on not OK things like books, or (memorably in our house) an entire strip of condoms.

i was going to suggest a window seat for her but someone beat me to it upthread and you’ve already advanced to the new toy. :stuck_out_tongue:

get her some catnip too - fresh or already packaged. sprinkle a little of that on a hard floor surface (NEVER ON CARPET!!) it’ll go a long way toward distracting her.
i’d also get a little kitty fishing rod. i bought an el cheapo at dollar general and the scuba kitties love it. it gives maggie and turk exercise and quality time with yours truly.
