# New LapTop, Charging Options

When I use it like a desktop (95% of the time), should I leave it plugged in, or is it better to drain the battery and then plug-in and recharge?
a. For the Battery
b. For the power Cord

I have a Toshiba laptop that has been plugged in almost continuously since 2010.

Another option (on some laptops) is removing the battery altogether if you’re going to leave it plugged in for extended periods…as far as which option is best for long term battery life (I wouldn’t worry about the power cord), there doesn’t seem to be a single best answer - [link](http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/leave-laptop-plugged-time/).
