I just got the following:

I have never published or worked in [insert specialty here]. Obviously someone has put together a list of professors or something and hope that I know something about [insert speciaity here] and would be flattered to be invited. Flattered enough to click.
Yesterday I got something purporting to come from Home Depot that announced that I, along with two other people had won some jackpot. There were photos of two other other names with the indication that they had already clicked and received their winnings; only I hadn’t and would I please click here to collect.
These spams are getting dumber and dumber.

I get at least 3 or 4 spammy scammy fake conference invites every day. Comes with the territory.

I (actually, my scambaiting persona) get those all the time.
Scams always get dumber, hopefully it reflects a shrinking pool of potential victims.
My most recent is Coca Cola is giving away 20 billion to one lucky winner. Guess who that lucky winner is?

I seriously doubt the emails I get are from actual members. I’ve never followed through beyond flinging insults but I’m sure there will be a demand for yearly dues, application fees, etc.

Yes that was copied directly from the email. I thought that was one of the funniest things about it. Reminds me of the time I got a call purportedly coming from a grandson. “Which one?” I asked. They hadn’t anticipated that and gave my name. I have five grandsons, none with my name.
