While I’m still not terribly impressed with this show, it does seem to be improving and I give them a lot of credit for making it clear that Dracula isn’t a nice but misunderstood guy. While he has some positive qualities, including being weirdly progressive for a 15th century nobleman, he’s fine with drinking the blood of the innocent and willing to sacrifice even his allies in pursuit of his larger goals.
However, now that they’ve established that Dracula doesn’t have a heartbeat I am wondering if Lady Buffy is the world’s most gullible vampire hunter. She generally seems competent when it comes to dealing with other vampires, and yet she can’t identify Dracula as one of the undead when he’s literally right on top of her.
I’m sure there are an infinite number of plot holes. For example there’s the whole issue of vampire compulsion. The mythology of this ability seems to vary quite a bit from one “tradition” to another but given the extent of the powers being ascribed to Dracula so far, I have to believe that he could easily make Lady Wetherby his thrall if he chose to. That would seem to obviate the need for this whole mating dance with her, but wtf, I’m just so tickled that that there’s so much supernatural and fantasy oriented entertainment available. Grimm, Once upon a time, even shows like The Originals and American Horror Story. I’m not sure when this all became the new “thing” but I’m happy to milk it for all it’s worth.
