Would “Go get an American form of health care” be considered a similar violation?

And what about “go get the health care American poor get!”?

Someone always does, and then the stupidity gets to be too much to ignore. Hell, Harborwolf thinks she’s good people. Seriously. I guess I have this sick optimism that one day, at least one fact that is offered to her will penetrate her thick carapace. Hey, miracles can happen, right?

> I was referring to you saying that your parents are middle class, aren’t in danger of losing their house and support a UHC. Those things have nothing to do with my situation, which is what the previous post was about.

Okay, let’s review our ‘conversation’ so far:

**Me** : Hey, curlcoat, why is it that Canadians can pay less for healthcare and cover everyone?

**You** : Well…how high are the taxes there? How much are the poor, downtrodden middleclass like me suffering? What about the fact that Canadians wait forever for any kind of care? You don’t know any of these things!

**Me** : Actually I do, partially because I am smarter than you and literate, which you apparently are not, and also because I live in Canada. I myself do not pay taxes, but here’s an example of people who are in your age group, at your income level, are paying a mortgage and planning retirement just like you and are _not_ being forced out of their homes or driven to destitution by the taxes involved in providing UHC.

**You** : But, but, but… this is no longer about me! I refuse to take anecdotal tales of other people at face value, but my own life experience is undeniably universal! ME ME ME!
Seriously, do you not get that this is meant to be a general debate about healthcare? Not every decision is based on what some bitter old hag in California thinks will happen to her. Governmant decisions should be based on the greater good. You don’t always get exactly what you want, and neither does anyone else, but that’s democracy for you.

> [@](#):
>
> According to [this](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_care_in_Canada), the idea of government subsidized healthcare started in the 18th century in Canada.

**Fear Itself** already nicely addressed this - the idea and the reality are not the same. The idea has been bandied about the US for a long time too. Regardless, do you really think that this is a good reason? By this arguement nothing would ever be allowed to change, because it’s only a good idea if it started a long time ago. Surely you see how this attitude would stop progress cold if put into effect.

Really? You really can’t lay your hands on a measly $60 for a prescription, out of your SSDI payments or out of your husbands salary? Hell, as a starving student I could rustle up that kind of dough if it meant better health for me. I flatly refuse to beileve that you would have to raid your giant retirement fund for that. Eat some less fancy food, take the bus instead of drive once in a while, maybe stop taking youre dogs to all kinds of stupid places. You know I just had a thought, an epiphany if you will. If the information is out there to be had about publicly funded insurance and the good it will do, why do people have so many arguments for/against.

Are they all wrong, are some of them wrong.
Who is doing the world an injustice here? Those who want it or those who don’t?
I see this as THE fault of the people proposing said insurance.

I’ve seen the argument that UHC will costs us less (in total) than what is currently being spent to cover the uninsured (cite please) This one simple argument would sway me to the side of “Let’s do it”

Perhaps idea wasn’t the best word to use - Canada apparently had different local subsidized healthcare programs, starting back in the 18th century.

Shrug, OK. [Here](http://canadianaffairs.suite101.com/article.cfm/structure_and_history_of_canadian_healthcare) it talks about it dating back to 1947. Altho, if you look at the Wiki entry, that one has an impressive list of cites itself.

You have far more faith in the government’s ability to be at all efficient, much less much much more efficient than the average private company. Also, private insurance companies do not pay for services with the premiums they collect, not directly. They make investments and have large reserves they earn interest on - if they had to depend on premiums, particularly those from group policies, they would go broke quickly.

Hate in particular just takes too much energy and allows the hated person/object to take over part of your life. Huh. First you say what I posted was just making excuses, and now you want a cite on an opinion? If you are serious, I’ll tell you why I think certain parts of the bill that was linked look like they will make life difficult for private insurance companies, tho if you would actually read what I write, I did touch on some of that already. Tho I don’t know why I’d bother - you are so full of negative bias regarding anything I post that I could tell you that the sun comes up in the east and you’d say I was lying.

This however I’ll answer. Yes, I could come up with a “measly” $60 (you must live better than I do if that is “measly”) but it didn’t happen to be in the budget to dump that much on a new prescription - note that word budget. We live on a budget and it doesn’t include fancy food nor new clothes, iphones or any of the other junk people buy these days. The bus isn’t really an option here - I could take it to the store or bank but it would end up costing about the same as driving, and I can’t take it in any realistic fashion outside of the cities. Our bus system is crap. As for the dogs, if I chose to spend my money on dog events instead of $60 for a brand RX, that is my right. It is also my right to say _enough_ when it comes to paying all this tax. Not that I think it will have any effect, but there is no reason why I shouldn’t be able to say that it is getting to be too much.
