Just to stack on to the list of cites: here’s a study by the Rand Corporation showing the Veterans Administration delivering [superior care](http://www.rand.org/pubs/research_briefs/RB9100/index1.html). Or how about this cite from the Kaiser Foundation, showing Medicare recipients [trust](http://www.nationaljournal.com/njonline/mp_20090629_2600.php) Medicare at a higher rate (68 percent) than people on private insurance (48)? ---

On what other issues do you run with common sense and experience rather than data? Do you think the sun and moon are perfect celestial bodies orbiting the Earth while attached to perfectly transparent crystalline spheres? Do you think that rotting meat creates maggots? Is the planet you live on (the one where torture is widely acknowledged to be effective and thus justifiable) flat? ---
