Not that the Republican’s are incapable of trying such a thing, but the elector thing only works because the Constitution specifically vests the authority to select electors in the Legislature (pending whatever the 14th amendment does to that text).

I don’t think even the current court would allow a legislature to select themselves as members of said body. But, of course, never say never to the current GOP.

That would also be unconstitutional:

> [@Article II §1p2](#):
>
> Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector.

I was unclear - I meant appointing (I guess re-appointing) themselves to their state legislature (which seemed to be what Desert Dog was worried about).

Trump Day.”](https://fox8.com/tag/donald-trump/)
> On Friday, Republican Reps. Jon Cross and Reggie Stoltzfus emailed their House colleagues asking for co-sponsors for their upcoming bill “to celebrate one of the greatest presidents in American history,” the[Columbus Dispatch reports.](https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/2021/01/29/ohio-republican-lawmakers-want-designate-june-14-donald-j-trump-day/4309995001/)

Lately, many Republicans pass that “stupidest f\*&^#\*g thing” bar every day. They have totally destroyed any meaning to “stupid”. Stupid, stupider, stupidest, most bigly hughly stupid; all those have become badges of honor to them. They strive to get their mugs/names in the media in grandiose, obnoxious, ways.

I’d nominate DumpsterFire’s news conference with Birx:
“So, supposing we hit the body with a tremendous – whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light,” the president said, turning to Dr Deborah Birx, the White House coronavirus response co-ordinator, “and I think you said that hasn’t been checked but you’re going to test it.

“And then I said, supposing you brought the light inside of the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. And I think you said you’re going to test that too. Sounds interesting,” the president continued.

We’ll just leave the whole “injecting disinfectant into your body” stream of unconsciousness ramble out – NOT – ” US President Donald Trump has been lambasted by the medical community after suggesting research into whether coronavirus might be treated by injecting disinfectant into the body.”

> **[Coronavirus: Outcry after Trump suggests injecting disinfectant as treatment](https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-52407177)**

> Doctors call the president's latest remarks about coronavirus treatment "dangerous" and "ridiculous".

Not discounting you idea that these lawmakers are idiots; they are.

Doesn’t every strongman society eventually end up like that? The only means to advance is to praise the strongman, and to praise him better than the others vying for favor. So now we have a lot of Republicans actively trying to out-stupid each other as ostentatious displays of loyalty, in hopes of receiving Trump’s largesse.

I _am_ reminded of the story about the Presidium applauding after one of Stalin’s speeches, each afraid to stop because the first to do so was liable to disappear in the next week or two.

Quite a few states still don’t have a law preventing a rapist from being able to exercise parental rights over children conceived by the rape, and rapists have sued for custody, too. As of now, only 32 states allow all parental rights to be terminated, and 20 allow restrictions to be put into place.

There’s a story that a speech of Stalin was recorded on several LPs including one LP side that was entirely the applause (this story may be untrue - I have no citation for it).

Not ruling out ‘the guy has brain damage’ as an explanation of the bill, but: the idea that a vaccine could contain “human parts” may have come about in reaction to the reality that Donald Trump (among others), when sick with COVID-19, benefited from a treatment that DID stem from human fetal tissue:

Of course no Trump fan would ever dream of hinting that their idol could have benefited from something that (if you go back far enough) came from a HUMAN FETUS THAT NEVER HAD THE CHANCE TO BECOME A BABY because of Evil Science, etc.

But perhaps the idea is rattling around the back of the so-called mind of this Oklahoma legislator, and so he put the ‘human parts’ prohibition into his bill.

This has to be textbook “workings of the conspiracy-theory-vulnerable mind” stuff.

Obviously the phones permitted the FBI to track the insurrectionists. But that provides none of what CT-addicts crave. They much prefer ‘the flag manufacturers are part of the conspiracy against you! and months or even years before January 6, knowing you’d be buying a flag to bring to D.C., they implanted tracking devices!!!’

That’s _much_ more satisfying than the obvious truth (that the phones permitted the FBI to track them).
