IMHO McConnell has a serious case of Saruman Syndrome. He thought he could go on running things to his advantage and manipulate and dominate the people of all ideological persuasions he was in contact with. He underestimated the rising power of Sauron (Trumpism) and thought he could ride the storm for his own benefit, no matter which side was ultimately dominant. Even though Trumpism is nowhere near as defeated (yet?) as Sauron, ISTM that McConnell has moved into his Shire-wrecking phase. He will stoop to anything that will contribute to continuing his accustomed role as a dominant mastermind, and will harm the “other side” who dared to oppose him. ---

“… Lindell announced that he had hired a team of investigators to look into Zuckerberg, Dorsey and others that he believes are guilty of ‘criminal activity.’” I wonder if it’s the same crack team of investigators that Trump hired and sent to Hawaii to uncover The Truth™ about Obama’s birth certificate? ---

The thing with Mitch is that this isn’t a new development. I have often asked myself the same question - why does he do it? It’s not just about personal or generational wealth. He’s doing well in that regard, but not RICH rich. If he wanted to be RICH rich, he’d be better off in the private sector - or retiring a long time ago and moving into the “former Senator” gravy train. As far as I know, he doesn’t have kids? So, I’m left with only one conclusion - POWER (as he sees it). Personally, I am on the opposite end of the spectrum of people who crave power, but I can intellectually move my brain around to see how someone can be motivated like that. Now, one might ask - OK, power to what ends? Sure, he can point to “accomplishments” that serve the conservative agenda. But underneath that, I don’t think he really (like REALLY really) cares about taxes or judges or abortions - those are just means to his ends. So, instead it’s kinda nihilistic. I think that once you’ve gotten a taste of real POWER, it’s an addiction - you just crave more and don’t want to stop. ---
