I can see his point to some extent in that the immediate reaction upon hearing the story of Junteenth for the first time isn’t so much, “Yay slaves freed!”, as it is “Jesus fucking Christ, it took them two years to find out!” Of course just because the origin of the holiday is a bit downer isn’t a reason not to included as a calendar. Memorial day and Veterans day aren’t exactly built on sunshine and rainbows. As well as the fact that counter to his claim no one is suggesting scrapping the 4th of July. ---
