Crazy dudes who yell at passers-by on the street may collect a few coins in the hat at their feet, but they’re not inventors and innovators, who have done well enough in business to afford to buy airtime. Right-wingers respect that, and so are willing to listen to what the pillow guy says; they don’t respect the crazy dude on the corner, who has invented and innovated and contributed little to nothing to the economy. Because of all that, right-wingers feel that the pillow guy is a voice to be listened to, Never mind that if the pillow guy had not invented his pillow, he’d be just another crazy dude on the corner. ---

Of course, the only reason the pillow guy has sold pillows is not because his pillows are in the least innovative, but just because he’s really good at yelling crazy things on the streetcorner in his advertisements. ---

i had the same thing around chrismas 2019, had the antibody test as well. negative for covid, so just really bad head cold. ---

I’d say it ties in with the audience’s need for authoritarian-level “certainty”. Those who crave a bully to follow will always expect that bully to project confidence. They expect that the bully will assert possession of Absolute Truth. The concept of acknowledging grey areas, or of admitting to having less than perfect knowledge, fills that audience with fear and anxiety. So those who aspire to be the bullies admired by that audience will also aspire to a know-it-all, superior-to-those-Others demeanor. To us it looks stupidly–even ludicrously–smug and smarmy. But to the right-wing audience, it’s reassuring and comforting. ---
