A few days late but I didn’t see it posted:

New Hampshire State Representative James Spillane posted the following on his Facebook page:

> [@](#):
>
> Public Service Announcement: If you see a BLM sign on a lawn it’s the same as having a porch light on for Halloween. You’re free to loot and burn that house.

And he’s earned himself [a little investigation from the state AG](https://boston.cbslocal.com/2020/09/04/black-lives-matter-james-spillane-facebook-post-new-hampshire-attorney-general-investigation/).

I also didn’t know that having a porch light on for Halloween meant that you were free to loot and burn the house.

WTF?

[Iowa school districts are directing](https://iowastartingline.com/2020/09/09/musical-chairs-iowa-school-districts-new-way-to-skirt-covid-rules/) that students should be “getting up and walking around every 12-14 minutes in order to minimize consecutive time spent next to classmates. The 14-minute limit would allow most students to remain learning in-person even if someone in the classroom tests positive for COVID-19.”

It’s a pandemic, and they’re fucking playing musical chairs to skirt guidance directives. This probably puts the children and the teachers in more danger.

The districts in question are of course saying that isn’t why they’re doing this. They also aren’t saying why they think this will help. The current guidance is a quarantine is triggered for “individuals who had been within 6 feet for more for any 15 minutes with a positive case”, and specified that this meant 15 CONSECUTIVE minutes, not 15 spread across the course of a day.

Anyone want to tell them that just because 14 minutes is a minute shorter than 15, it doesn’t mean you’re safe?

So, if I’m understanding this, they’re safe for the first 14 minutes.

But watch out for that 15th minute. It’s a killer.

Kind of reminds me of the anecdote about two golfers caught out on the course when it starts to rain. They run under a tree on the course and are dry for the moment. One of the golfers looks up, worried. “It’s raining pretty heavy. What’ll we do when it filters through the tree?”

“We’ll just move to that other one over there.”
