I know this is the most trite point in the world at this juncture in time, but can you imagine for one fucking second if Michelle Obama was [secretly recorded](https://www.cnn.com/2020/10/01/politics/melania-trump-tapes/index.html) saying, “I’m working … my ass off on the Christmas stuff, that you know, who gives a fuck about the Christmas stuff and decorations? But I need to do it, right?” ---

I agree that she doesn’t have to do the work. I’m sure among the executive office staff and the White House Historical Society there are plenty of people who would love to decorate the White House, even as a volunteer on their own time. Some people really get into decorating their own homes for the holidays and hardly anyone sees the product of that work, so what must it be like to have your decorations on display for everyone to see. ---
